Assurance & authorization

What evidence and authority are needed for this particular service and boundary?

The idea in one view.

Assurance makes responsibilities and supporting evidence reviewable. Designated officials retain authorization and risk decisions for the actual environment.

State the boundary

Identify the system, shared services, information and intended use. A connection between environments does not merge their responsibilities or permissions.

Trace what is inherited

A shared platform may provide common controls. Each system still needs applicable evidence and an agreed account of what it inherits and what it must provide.

Keep decisions distinct

Testing, deployment, service acceptance and authorization are separate decisions. Documentation and monitoring support review; they do not grant approval.

Three questions for leadership.

  1. Which requirements apply, and who confirms their applicability?
  2. What evidence comes from the shared platform, and what remains system-specific?
  3. Who can accept the risk or approve the intended operation?

Make the evidence and responsibility visible; leave approval with the designated authority.
